March 24-28, 2008 - Watauga Trophy Section

Midges and blue wings are still the dominant hatches on the Trophy Section. Midges are hatching the best in the morning, and the blue wings have been showing up all day. Fluctuating water levels have really helped the hatches. Most of the bugs are coming off on dropping water. Fish are being caught on various blue wing nymphs and emergers. Rising fish have been caught on BWO compara duns, and parachutes. CDC patterns are working well in the still water. 18’s, and 20’s are being fished according to the hatch.

Some big browns are still being caught on big white and olive streamers in deep water. Remember to add lots of lead, especially when the water comes up.

The suckers and carp are spawning on the Watauga. Those guys fishing eggs have had some success in gravel spawning flats. We have opted to key in on the bugs instead.
