Report -
Nolichucky River
The smallmouth action is good, as the fish are in full pre
spawn mode. They are smacking small baitfish patterns. About
every fish we caught were full of long nosed dace, a very
common baitfish on the Noli. Smaller yellow, white, and
black streamers worked best. The fish were holding deep in
the early morning hours and a slow presentation was
required, however the bite was very good. As the day
progressed the bass moved to shallow riffles and currents
and schooled up on baitfish. Lots of smallmouth were caught,
the biggest bass being a 3 ½ pound female getting ready to
spawn. We also rainbows, brown trout, spotted bass, red
eyes, sunfish, and a fly rod caught carp. They Nolichucky
will always provide opportunities to catch multiple species.
The top water action should only get better with the warming
weather.
