2008 Fishing
Report - Nolichucky River
The smallmouth action is only getting better. We caught over
50 fish with a few over three pounds. The biggest fish
caught were a 4 lb female and a 5 lb flathead catfish. Lots
of smaller bass were caught on rubber legged buggers in
various colors. A few fish were caught on popping bugs,
however, the good top water bite is still a couple weeks
away. We fished during a heavy rain and low light with great
success. As the water rose and began to muddy up, the bass
continued to feed and started to move to shallow still
water. The action was consistent all day, however the best
bite was around 3 pm as the rain lightened up. The fish are
still keying in on small baitfish (Tenn. shiners and long
nosed dace). A few fish were caught on crayfish and
hellgrammite patterns.
