August 15-18,
2008 Fishing
Report -
Watauga Trophy Section
The caddis hatch has moved up stream and midges have
replaced the caddis as the dominant hatch on the trophy
section. Big swarms of midges are hatching out of the sandy
bottoms. Good numbers of fish are being caught on small
black midge larva size 18-24. Try stripping your midges
through fish feeding on emerging bugs. Some nice browns have
been caught using this technique. The sulfurs are starting
to show up in the late afternoons. Sulfur nymphs and
wetflies are catching plenty of fish throughout the entire
day. They are producing best in faster riffles and deep
slots.
